At Newcastle Elementary and Charter School, students TK through 8th grade receive Spanish instruction utilizing the Sombrero Time Curriculum and pedagogy in combination with games, songs, and arts/crafts activities to learn more about Spanish-speaking cultures.
What makes our program unique?
Very little English will be spoken during class, which has a powerful impact on acquisition speed.
The Sombrero Time curriculum is developed and published specifically for the immersion environment to address all areas of language development: reading, writing, listening and speaking in Spanish. Exciting lessons and activities are included to keep the program fun and engaging.
The Sombrero Time program is conducted 2 days per week. Frequent exposure is critical to success.
What can be done at home to support what is being learned at school?
