At Newcastle Elementary Charter School, students TK through 8th grade receive Spanish instruction utilizing Sombrero Time Curriculum and pedagogy in combination with games, songs, and cooking activities to learn more about Spanish speaking cultures.

What makes our program unique?


No English will be spoken during class which has a powerful impact on the speed of acquisition.


Sombrero Time curriculum is developed and published specifically for the immersion environment to address all areas of language development- reading, writing, listening and speaking in Spanish. Exciting lessons and activities are included to keep the program fun and engaging.


The Sombrero Time program is conducted 2 days per week. Frequent exposure is critical to success.
