At Newcastle Elementary and Charter School, Students TK through 5th grade receive general music instruction. We sing, dance, and play music with drums, boom whackers, and glockenspiels. Fourth and Fifth graders learn to play songs on recorders and are expected to practice at home a minimum of 10 min/day 4 times weekly.
Methodology: Orff and Kodaly Sing, Dance, Play
The Orff and Kodaly teaching methods encourage children to learn music through singing, dancing, and playing. We encourage children to be creative and share their ideas, to improvise and compose music.
