“I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning.”  Plato

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”   Albert Einstein

Hello!  My name is Christy Aday and I am delighted to be the General Music, Choir and Band Director here at Newcastle Elementary Charter School.  I strive to offer a program that is well rounded and rich with solid technical foundations, character building inspirational music and a wide variety of performance opportunities.

In General Music we do it all!  Some of our courses of study are: Music Theory: learning how to read and write notes, accounting for both pitch and rhythm. Music History: understanding the music that has come before us and how it has contributed to civilization.  World Music:  exploring music and culture all around the world.  Patriotic Music:  the songs and events that have shaped this nation.

Along this journey, we sing, dance, chant, move, create, clap and play.  General Music is offered to students in Grades TK - 5.

In Choir we learn not only proper technique and a wide repertoire but we also learn how to present ourselves, encourage one another and connect to the music so that our audience can enter in and feel the music with us.  Our Choir has performed for many local events as well as for the Sacramento River Cats and the Sacramento Kings!  Choir is offered to students in Grades 3 - 8.

In Band we learn how to play a specific instrument, focusing on reading and understanding musical notation.  We create a unique and valuable community that provides a place for students to grow and thrive in their musical pursuits.   We learn how to work together and find great support in our special bond.  Choir is offered to students in Grades 4 - 8.

Our Music program highlights are our Annual Veterans Day program and our Holiday Knights Show.  While COVID may have us a little more quiet at this time, we are continuing to pursue musical growth to emerge from this season stronger than before!
I welcome any questions you may have and look forward to offering your child an enjoyable and inspiring musical experience.  For more up to date information, please visit this (link) for the music program website.
