My name is Christy Aday and I am happy to be teaching at Newcastle Elementary School. I was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada but left to attend Liberty University in Virginia where I earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. I started teaching music in 1998 after moving to the Bay Area. My placement in an inner city school district as a music specialist was a challenging yet highly satisfying introduction into education. It was this experience that led me to pursue a Single Subject Music Credential from California State University, East Bay. A little further into my career I received an Administrative Credential and an M.S. in Educational Leadership, also from Cal State East Bay.
I enjoy all disciplines of music education - General Music, Band & Choir and use play to engage children. In my classroom we are often skipping, dancing, running and laughing. It's a thrill watching kids shine in performance but the wonder of the learning process is equally gratifying. I am a wife and a mother to 4 children who all attend Newcastle School and am excited to be part of my community in this manner. I will often say that I love music, but the truth is that I love children more - this is what shapes and motivates how I educate. I believe that I don't just teach music, I TEACH CHILDREN through music.
